In 2009 the government issued a formal apology for all of the suffering the Aboriginals went through. While many were happy to have that at the very least, it still did not seem to be quite enough for all that they had lost.

Australia gained it's independence on 1 January 1901. The British Parliament passed a legislature that allowed the six Australian colonies to govern on their own as the Commonwealth of Australia. The Commonwealth of Australia was established as a constitutional monarchy. The effects of imperialism can still be seen because of many reasons; the main language is still English, more than 80 percent of the population is from European decent, and their government still reflects the British Parliament.

Imperialism’s impact on the original people of Australia may have had many negative impacts, there was also a lot of improvement to Australia as a whole. As a country, Australia flourished even if the original people suffered with a loss of language and tradition. But in the future, hopefully the Aboriginals will get even more of the rights and property they so rightly deserve and the people of Australia will right the wrongs of their ancestors.
